About Our Neighbourhood & Association
Nestled in the Okanagan Valley between Kelowna’s Lake Okanagan and the world class Big White ski resort, the family-oriented community of Black Mountain/Belgo is home to nearly 5,000 residents. Scenic mountain, forest, lake, golf course and orchard views abound in this natural oasis.
The area has experienced a 40% population increase in the past decade: Census statistics indicate the area had roughly 3,400 residents in 2000, 4,000 residents in 2005, and new residential developments suggest the population has increased to about 4,800 in 2009. The Black Mountain/Belgo area is composed of 27% children ages 19 and under, compared to 22% for the Kelowna CMA as a whole. Such rapid population growth combined with a higher concentration of children than other areas of Kelowna has created a significant need to consider the existing amenities and opportunities for families in the area.
To further this pursuit, an enthusiastic group of residents has formed the Black Mountain/Belgo Residents Association. The association is committed to making the area an enriching and vibrant place to live.
